NEIL FENDELL
Concrete Canvas 2022: Neil was paired with Chelmsford Sea Cadets. Neil was inspired by the drawings that the sea cadets created during the community engagement session. He went with the idea of a wave of the river also being a radio wave.
Concrete Canvas 2023: Neil created another Marconi inspired piece for Concrete Canvas 2023. Chelmsford is known as the birthplace of radio. Guglielmo Marconi, who was the first to transmit signals over about a mile and a half in 1895, opened his first factory in Chelmsford in 1899.
Artists Profile: I am a senior product designer for an international manufacturing company in Witham, Essex. However I have spent most of my life living by the River Thames in Leigh-on-Sea, where I grew up with the fresh salty air, and the sound of the ships fog horns on the busy Estuary. I attended West Leigh Infant and Junior school, and then Belfairs High school in Leigh where it was clear I wanted to have a creative career. I chose to study Graphic Design at Southend College which eventually led on to a 1st Class BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from Central Saint Martins, London.
I have recently been creating posters, inspired by the local area around me and the places I loved to visit whilst growing up. These posters include Leigh-on-Sea, Essex and the surrounding areas, but I am fast expanding to other parts of East Anglia.
